RECYCLING & COMPOSTING
We do not use polystyrene foam (Styrofoam). In addition, our full-scale recycling program includes the separation and processing of cardboard, glass, metal, and plastic. Local farmers pick up our organic matter for compost and use our waste grease for fuel.
We print on recycled and chlorine-free paper. By purchasing products with high levels of post-consumer recycled content, we are helping to support these secondary systems. Using post-consumer material in paper manufacturing also conserves water and energy and reduces the production of solid waste and greenhouse gas emissions.
We installed Water Efficient Faucet Aerators on all of our kitchen hand sinks. These aerators use only a half gallon to one-and-a-half gallons of water per minute and they maintain a uniform water flow and spray pattern. This simple step can reduce the water consumption of these sinks by nearly 75%.
ENERGY and PAPER CONSERVATION
Each of our employee bathrooms has an Xlerator hand dryer. Xlerators use 80% less energy than traditional hand dryers and dry hands in 10 to 15 seconds. Xlerators also halve our paper towel usage, saving paper.
ELIMINATION OF BOTTLED WATER
As an environmentally-friendly alternative to the waste associated with the manufacturing, transport and disposal of conventional bottled water, we now serve only NATURA™ water. The NATURA™ system is a countertop machine that triple-carbon filters and UV sterilizes water, which we then serve in reusable carafes.
